Call for information on potential health risks of exposure to noise from personal music players and mobile phones including a music playing function
The Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks has received a request for a scientific opinion on Potential health risks of exposure to noise from personal music players and mobile phones including a music playing function.
In this context, the safety of devices currently on the market will be considered.
Scope of the call for information:
Interested parties are invited to submit the following information:
1) Maximum (both peak and average when using full dynamic range) acoustical output pressure level of the devices (Personal Music Players and mobile phones with this function including associated earphones) currently on the EU market. Please provide these data also for digital music sources (e.g. after dynamic range compression and re-allocation to the full range), independent of distortion, in dB SPL and dB(A), and include tolerance.
2) Acoustic sensitivity, frequency response as well as type of earphones included in the packaging of the devices on the EU market (including technical characteristics such as distortion and impedance).
3) Acoustic sensitivity, frequency response as well as type of other earphones compatible with the devices as specified in point 1 on the EU market (including technical characteristics such as distortion and impedance).
4) Annual sales data of devices as specified in point 1 and earphones as specified in point 3 (for the EU market).

All information should be submitted in electronic form specifying “Noise - Call for Information” in the subject line of the e-mail.
