The safety of dental amalgam and alternative dental restoration materials for patients and users

The European Commission has requested the SCENIHR to prepare an opinion on the safety of dental amalgam and alternative dental restoration materials. The preliminary version of the opinion can be found here.

The SCENIHR has approved a preliminary report on the safety of dental amalgam and alternative dental restoration materials to provide the Commission with a sound scientific basis for developing and implementing policies on dental restoration materials. The report addresses health effects and the safety of these materials for both patients and dental health professionals. It also addresses the question whether certain populations, such as pregnant women or children are particularly at risk.

Deadline for the submission of comments: 22 February 2008.
