Why we are consulting
Public consultation on the SCENIHR preliminary report on "Safety of medical devices containing DEHP-plasticized PVC or other plasticizers on neonates and other groups possibly at risk"
Public consultation on the SCENIHR preliminary report on
'Safety of medical devices containing DEHP-plasticized PVC or other plasticizers on neonates and other groups possibly at risk’
The European Commission has requested the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) to prepare an opinion on ‘Safety of medical devices containing DEHP-plasticized PVC or other plasticizers on neonates and other groups possibly at risk’. The preliminary version of the opinion can be found here.
The SCENIHR opinion, approved for public consultation on 21-22 June 2007, provides the Commission with a sound scientific advice on the safety of DEHP and its alternatives in PVC medical devices. The report provides thorough evaluation of the DEHP toxicity according to animal and human data as well as the evaluation of toxicity of the potential alternative plasticizers.
Interested parties are invited to submit their comments on the preliminary opinion via the following website.
A document on Guidelines for submission of contributions, containing the criteria for the public consultation and guidance for submission, can be found here.
Deadline for the submission of comments is 26 November 2007.
Please note that comments received after the deadline CANNOT be taken into account.
Please note that comments which do not relate to the scope of this public consultation or do not comply with the criteria for these public consultations will not be considered.
More information on SCENIHR and the other non-food Scientific Committees of the European Commission can be found here.
