The European Health data Space (EHDS) - Unlocking Europe's Health Data Future Together

To mark the adoption of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation—published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 5 March 2025—the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) hosted a high-level event in Brussels, under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

With over 850 participants joining onsite and online, the event explored how the EHDS will transform the European health ecosystem by enabling secure and efficient health data sharing across the EU. Three dynamic panel discussions and keynotes focused on the benefits for patients and researchers, building trust in digital health, and unlocking innovation and competitiveness in the health sector.

Keynote speakers included:

  • Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare
  • Katarzyna Kacperczyk, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Poland
  • Lorena Boix Alonso, Deputy Director-General for Health, DG SANTE
  • Sandra Gallina, Director-General, DG SANTE
  • Hela Ghariani, Co-chair of the eHealth Network and co-head of the digital health delegation, Ministry of Health, France
  • Grzegorz Borowiec, Deputy Director, Department of eHealth, Ministry of Health of Poland

The event concluded with a call for collective action to make the EHDS a success, ensuring health data is available where it can improve care, support research, and drive innovation.
