In February 2023, the European Commission signed an agreement associating Moldova with the EU4Health programme.
This agreement will provide open access for Moldova to EU funding in the area of health. It will enable the Moldovan health system to respond to immediate needs and contribute to long-term recovery.
The association agreement gives the Moldovan health authorities, and community actors access to EU4Health funds on equal footing with those from EU countries and associated countries, such as Norway, Iceland, Ukraine and Montenegro. The access is subject to compliance of their respective national systems with the Union legislation relevant to the specific action such as Regulation (EU) 2016/679 on the General Data Protection Regulation when treatment of personal data is involved.
Moldovan public and private entities will be able to receive funding through competitive (open calls) and non-competitive (direct grants and joint actions) measures. The agreement will be retroactive to 1 January 2023, allowing Moldova to participate in the calls to be launched in 2023.
The association agreement is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to support public health improvement and provide assistance to Ukrainian displaced citizens in Moldova.
The EU4Health Programme has a total budget of €5.3 billion for 2021-27.
