SCCS - Call for experts for the risk assessment of cosmetic products (deadline: 11 January 2015)

To meet the increased demand for risk assessments related to consumer safety, the Directorate General for Health and Consumers has launched a call for expression of interest to appoint experts who will assist the work of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). They are appointed in their personal capacity as external experts in the working groups of the SCCS.

The mission of the SCCS is to provide the European Commission with scientific opinions concerning risk assessment of consumer products, manly cosmetic products and their ingredients, which the Commission uses to develop policies on the consumer protection.

Expertise is required in one or more of the following areas:

• 1. analytical chemistry,
• 2. toxicokinetics including modelling,
• 3. reproductive toxicity
• 4. dermatology,
• 5. sensitisation,
• 6. in vitro toxicology.

In addition, experience in risk assessment, in particular related to consumer safety, is essential. Scientists experienced in more than one area will be advantaged.

Applicants should be aware that the workload would be substantial; members of the working groups are expected to participate in monthly meetings in Luxembourg in addition to the work they contribute individually.

Applications from interested candidates should be submitted online by 11 January 2015 indicating, the area of expertise being applied for (click on the SCCS box at page 3 of the form). Only properly completed online applications will be considered.

This call for expression of interest is launched according to the Rules of Procedures of the Scientific Committees ensuring transparency and equal opportunities for highly qualified and specialised scientific experts. The SCCS encourages the participation of women and experts coming from Member States that joined the EU after 1 May 2004.

The successful candidates will be required to accept the conditions for his/her membership in the working group, as explained in detailed in the Rules of Procedure.
