The temporary Subgroup on Proton Therapy Centres was set up under the Steering Group on Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Management of Non-Communicable Diseases.
Its creation followed a request from the European Investment Bank to better understand the demand for innovative particle therapy centres in Europe as well as the challenges associated with setting up and operating such centres.
In accordance with its mandate, the subgroup will examine the current state of play of availability and use of proton therapy centres across the EU and identify options for willing Member States to cooperate sustainably to improve information exchange and avoid duplication of efforts.
The subgroup brings together representatives from interested Member States, Norway and Iceland, various Commission services and the European Investment Bank.
