In October 2017, a joint meeting of the Health Security Committee, Chief Medical and Chief Veterinary Officers, EU agencies and international organisations took place to address the developing epidemiological situation for influenza in humans and animals in the EU, following the largest ever A(H5N8) highly pathogenic avian influenza epidemic recorded in the EU.
