Call for experts on the environmental risks and indirect health effects of mercury in dental amalgam

Call for expression of interest for experts on the environmental risks and indirect health effects of mercury in dental amalgam

The European Commission has requested the Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER) to deliver an opinion on the potential health impacts caused by dental amalgam and its substitutes. The detailed mandate for this assessment can be found here.

The relevant SCHER working group has identified a need in the field of the use of dental amalgam and its substitutes. In line with the Rules of procedureof the Scientific Committees, a call for expression of interest for experts in this topic is launched.

To allow for a comprehensive assessment, experts in various scientific fields related to the environmental risks and indirect health effects of mercury in dental amalgam are encouraged to apply. Experience in risk assessment would be an advantage.

The deadline for submission for this call for experts is 10 October 2012 (kindly note that the registration to the database of experts with regard to the general work of the Scientific Committees is permanently open). Applicants are requested to indicate “SCHER: Dental amalgam ENV – call for experts” in the subject title of the message sent with their application.

The successful candidate will be required to read and accept the conditions for his/her membership in the working group, as explained in detail in the Rules of procedure of the Scientific Committees.

Further information on SCHER and the European Commission's other non-food Scientific Committees can be found here.
