In line with Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2016/786, a technical group of sensory and chemical assessors assists the Independent Advisory Panel. This group carries out the practical sensory and chemical assessments of tobacco products and provide input to the panel on the methodology to be used for the technical assessment of these products. The methodology for sensory analysis is based on a comparison of the smelling properties of the test product with those of reference products. The technical group acts independently of the Independent Advisory Panel.
The technical group was set up via a public procurement procedure.
