Call for Information on the addictiveness and attractiveness of tobacco additives

The Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) has received a request for a scientific opinion on Addictiveness and Attractiveness of Tobacco Additives.

In line with its procedures for stakeholder dialogue, published on 15 September 2007, the European Commission's Health and Consumers Directorate-General is issuing a call for information on this subject. The Stakeholder Dialogue Procedure is now implemented in the Rules of Procedures of the new Scientific Committees set up by Commission Decision 2008/721/EC of 5 August 2008. The procedure is outlined in Annex IV of the related document.

Scope of the call for information:

Interested parties are invited to submit information on the following topics:

  1. Information on the manufacturing process of tobacco products (excluding the agricultural process), in particular details about the stage/timing of adding additives for any purpose including to ensure the consistency of each tobacco product/brand (additives are defined as any substance that is added during the course of manufacture of a tobacco product, including preservatives, humectants, flavours and processing aids (except water)).
  2. Information on methods applicable for assessment of attractiveness (e.g. appeal, palatability, and/or liking).

All information should be submitted in electronic form to: Sanco-call-information AT ec.europa.eu specifying "Tobacco Additives - Call for Information" in the subject line of the e-mail.

Please include your contact details, organization, and e-mail address in the text of the message. The full body of your contribution as well as references should be attached as separate documents to the electronic message.

All information is considered public unless otherwise stated by the provider.
