Ensuring Equal Access to All: Cancer in Women - Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan

About the event

European Commissioner Stella Kyriakides was the host of a hybrid event entitled “Ensuring equal access to all: Cancer in Women - Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan” on 2 February 2022 to raise awareness of cancer in women and to announce the latest actions under the EU’s Cancer Plan. The event featured personal testimonials from women affected by cancer, an expert panel discussion on ensuring access to preventative measures, early detection, treatments and care for all, as well as insights into the political responses to address future needs.

Four new Cancer Plan actions were announced at the event:

1. The Cancer Inequalities Registry
2. A cancer screening call for evidence
3. A Joint Action on HPV vaccination
4. An EU Network of Youth Cancer Survivors

One year on

One year ago, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Commission launched Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan to signal its renewed commitment to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and quality of life. Since then, the EU has put the necessary elements in place for a smooth implementation of the Cancer Plan and it is already beginning to deliver on its objectives. The event will be the occasion to announce new deliverables and will serve as a prelude to World Cancer Day, the global initiative to unite the world in the fight against cancer.
