Global Health Policy Forum, Brussels, 25 October 2012 - Contributions available

This was the third Global Health Policy Forum organised by the Commission Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (DG DEVCO) in 2012. There was a wide participation of stakeholders as well as some participation from the Commission (DG for Development and Cooperation, and DG for Health and Consumers). The Forum debated on the role of private sector in health and four presentations were made:
- Engaging with the Private Sector in Development Cooperation: DEVCO presented examples of Private-Public Collaboration programmes by EU Member States as well as possible actions for the next financial perspective to support development partnerships with the private sector.
- Engaging with the Private Sector in Health in Africa: GIZ presented the results and content of a regional conference organised in May 2012 in Tanzania. Human Resources , Access to Essential Medicines, Private Health Care Providers, Universal Health Coverage/Private Health Insurance were the main issues covered.
- Public Private Partnership Europe presented the role of PPPs on Health Service Delivery, aid effectiveness and sustainability
- Challenging the myth about the private health care in poor countries: Oxfam's position on the role of the private sector in health.
